Kelly Felton: Reaffirming the Writing Workshop - Sheryl Lain
http://felton3.blogspot.com/2009/07/reaffirming-writing-workshop-sheryl.html
Reaffirming the Writing Workshop - Sheryl Lain. I didn't post when I initially read this article. There were just too many important points that took my brain in too many directions to focus on the workshop as a whole then. Now I can step back and look at it more objectively with experience from our workshop. July 22, 2009 at 12:13 PM. I am like you and need time away from the article. I have been very pleased with my use of the notebook with middle school students. Christy. July 22, 2009 at 12:39 PM.

lynnepeters: Calkins Reflection

Wednesday, July 15, 2009. July 15, 2009 at 12:50 PM. July 21, 2009 at 5:58 PM. I took this idea to heart, but wonder how it might look in a junior high or high school setting where learning is so compartmentalized. Do I have them write for 15-20 minutes every day, or for an hour 2-3 days per week? Then, how do I work in reading, speech, drama, literature? How do I maintain momentum in the writers workshop and still meet my state mandates? July 22, 2009 at 3:31 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

July 21, 2009 at 6:07 PM. Aside from the particular examples supplied by the author, I was impressed mainly with his idea that we should provide good models, rather than broken ones that need fixing. Something said, something heard: Grading
http://taramandy.blogspot.com/2009/07/grading.html
Something said, something heard. Thursday, July 30, 2009. First grade grading is certainly different from high level grading. I do not give out letter grades and we do not operate on a 4.0 system. Everything is based on pass or fail- -essentially does the student have the skill, is he/she growing in that skill, or is there little to no evidence of that skill yet. I think it is helpful for me as an educator to have that broad view but it certainly does not give the detailed picture. Take Joy by Jane Yolen.
