http://www.brittkeller.blogspot.com/2009/07/writers-notebook-goodies-to-remember.html

Shooting the Breeze and other Classy Conversation. Wednesday, July 29, 2009. Writer’s Notebook Goodies to Remember! They are a place to store ideas, brainstorm, work on poems or any type of writing. To draft and edit/revise before final draft. A safe place to be creative and experiment, doodle. Put favorite quotes, words, phrases. Write questions for the instructor (for conferencing). Journaling or reflecting after a paper is turned in. Concrete concepts and strategies (like in a science classroom).

Shooting the Breeze and other Classy Conversation. Thursday, July 23, 2009. In Response to Bonnie Mary Warne’s “Teaching Conventions in a State-Mandated Testing Context”. July 26, 2009 at 2:43 PM. I felt that Bonnie really loves her profession, loves her students and cares for them. She tried different ways to approach them and did not give up. Sometimes I feel frustated when something is wrong, but she thought me to be patiente and look for solutions rather than blame somebody for the problems. The Digi...

Shooting the Breeze and other Classy Conversation: Top 10 Most Important Things about Conferencing

http://www.brittkeller.blogspot.com/2009/07/top-10-most-important-things-about.html

Shooting the Breeze and other Classy Conversation. Tuesday, July 28, 2009. Top 10 Most Important Things about Conferencing. 1) The questions are key. What you ask and how you ask can totally help or ruin your conference. 2) Don’t Hold the Paper! 3) Don’t bring out the evil red pen, just take notes about what you talk about and give the notes to the student at the end. 4) Meet in a comfy/special spot. 5) Conferencing should not be extra work, find ways to slip it into the workshop. I Deem it Winter. Thing...

Shooting the Breeze and other Classy Conversation. Tuesday, July 14, 2009. In Response to Sheryl Lain’s “Reaffirming the Writing Workshop for Young Adolescents”. I liked a ton of things Lain said, so I think this post is going to be a grab bag of Lain concepts that hit me the most. I’m excited to try. For more ideas, how do you guys grade workshops? July 14, 2009 at 9:44 PM. Oh I cant tell you how much I value authors that give me examples! July 17, 2009 at 11:21 AM. My students gain so much from my comm...

Kelly Felton: Reaffirming the Writing Workshop - Sheryl Lain

http://felton3.blogspot.com/2009/07/reaffirming-writing-workshop-sheryl.html

Reaffirming the Writing Workshop - Sheryl Lain. I didn't post when I initially read this article. There were just too many important points that took my brain in too many directions to focus on the workshop as a whole then. Now I can step back and look at it more objectively with experience from our workshop. July 22, 2009 at 12:13 PM. I am like you and need time away from the article. I have been very pleased with my use of the notebook with middle school students. Christy. July 22, 2009 at 12:39 PM.

lynnepeters: Calkins Reflection

http://lynnepeters.blogspot.com/2009/07/calkins-reflection.html

Wednesday, July 15, 2009. July 15, 2009 at 12:50 PM. July 21, 2009 at 5:58 PM. I took this idea to heart, but wonder how it might look in a junior high or high school setting where learning is so compartmentalized. Do I have them write for 15-20 minutes every day, or for an hour 2-3 days per week? Then, how do I work in reading, speech, drama, literature? How do I maintain momentum in the writers workshop and still meet my state mandates? July 22, 2009 at 3:31 AM. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Something said, something heard. Monday, July 20, 2009. This article used the example of using commas for list sentences and I immediately said to myself (no one else was around), “ah ha! July 21, 2009 at 6:07 PM. Aside from the particular examples supplied by the author, I was impressed mainly with his idea that we should provide good models, rather than broken ones that need fixing. Something said, something heard: Grading

http://taramandy.blogspot.com/2009/07/grading.html

Something said, something heard. Thursday, July 30, 2009. First grade grading is certainly different from high level grading. I do not give out letter grades and we do not operate on a 4.0 system. Everything is based on pass or fail- -essentially does the student have the skill, is he/she growing in that skill, or is there little to no evidence of that skill yet. I think it is helpful for me as an educator to have that broad view but it certainly does not give the detailed picture. Take Joy by Jane Yolen.
