Review: The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

http://disabilityinkidlit.com/2015/07/17/review-the-fault-in-our-stars-by-john-green

Skip to main content. The Fault in Our Stars. July 17, 2015. The Fault in Our Stars. From the premise, I suspected I would dislike this book. The fact that it claims not to be a “cancer book” is all the more frustrating when it’s pretty much the canceringest cancer book ever to cancer-book. So my expectations were low, but I was willing to be surprised and I was. I’d expected it to be a bit of a hate-read, but from what I’d heard I also expected it to be well-written and engaging. The exact same way.

Discussion: Romanticizing Mental Illness

http://disabilityinkidlit.com/2015/05/23/discussion-romanticizing-mental-illness

Skip to main content. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. April 4, 2015. The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time. 2003) received multiple awards and high praise. For its portrayal of a disabled protagonist, Christopher Boone, who is usually described as having Asperger’s/autism. Mark Haddon wrote it after (in his own words) doing no research other than reading an essay and a few popular articles about and by autistic people. Not as a good representation of autism. El Deafo by Cece Bell. January 12, 2017. This results in some hilarity, especially when she hears her teacher using the bathroom.
