An American in Brussels. Thursday, August 31, 2006. Three years in Belgium. Since August the 22nd I've been living here in Belgium for exactly three years. Sometimes I look around and I'm amazed at where I am. Every once in a while I feel this second of panic - oh my gosh! What am I doing here? People often ask me if I miss home. It's a logical question of course but how do you answer that? Well, I just say, "yes".) What do I miss? Posted by heather at 11:12 PM.

An American in Brussels. Tuesday, September 05, 2006. 28 Years on Earth. Saturday Wiet and I went rollerblading (in a decidedly wimpy little skating rink) in memory of my favorite birthday party activity. Unfortuantely there weren't any big carpeted toadstools or disco lights or corndogs with mustard or go-cart races or limbo competitions (sigh). Then, to continue in the theme of the most bizarre combinations of birthday activities, we went out for dinner at a Cuban restaurant.

Project: "Adult Life" - Phase Three. A funny thing happened on the way back from the gym. . . I'm pretty sure my mouth was open, and I know. I stared. I might have even slowed down to watch. Then I started to giggle. There they went, right on down the track; and right before they got to the curve, I heard the one getting bounced around groan, "Uhnngg. This sucks.". Posted by Amy @ 10:40. Project: "Adult Life" - Phase Three. I got excited about Civil Procedure today. Shocking! When one of the most confusing principles bit the dust by way of this justice's pen. Of course, that could be excitement that I won't have to deal with it all my life . . . It's a good sign that even the driest subject here can be exciting for me at times, even if it makes me a bit of a law nerd. Posted by Amy @ 12:34. Project: "Adult Life" - Phase Three. Who says torts can't be fun . . . or ridiculous . . . or ridiculously funny? Usually, cases are dry, direct or verbose, sometimes fascinating, but often slow going. Nothing, so far, compares to the case I read today, Cordas v. Peerless. I've copied below the recital of facts in the opinion. The analysis was interesting, and also funny; but it made this post really long. And now, I give you Justice Carlin, NY Supreme Court, 1941:. Project: "Adult Life" - Phase Three. Confirmation that my hope is restored: We lost another student this morning, but the news did not send me back into fear. Winter storm coming in. My car is covered in a solid, 1/2 inch thick sheet of ice; the grass looks like those frosted Christmas trees; and we're expecting about a foot of snow to fall, starting this evening. I broke out my MT snow boots and ski coat this morning and enjoyed the walk to school right much. Posted by Amy @ 09:09. Losing it, a bit.

Posted by Amy @ 07:18. So, I have arrived on the fabled "flip side." I really hope that I never, ever have to do that again. My wanderlust has been severely dampened by the reality of moving! Project: "Adult Life" - Phase Three. Just started a new job! Yes, I'm excited. I'm excited about it! This crazy Missouri winter continues to surprise even the locals. This morning, I walked to work in what the Missouri weatherman called a "blizzard" with "whiteout" conditions. :) Montanans would scoff, but there you have it. Actually, you do. I've been working steadily, without pressure, since the mini-crunch is now over - midterm, appellate brief, oral arguments - and with a strange concentration of April birthdays and everyone feeling like they're on break, we've had much fun before settling down again for crunch #2.
