A list of step by step recipes I use when cooking for a small ( 2 or fewer) crowd. Seriously illustrated. Thursday, January 2, 2014. A Dish for the New Year. I love a special meal for New Years Day but I don't like to work too hard. So I usually have something that can be prepared a day or two ahead and just heated while concentrating on Strauss and Champagne! For 2014 I chose to make some Bacala (dried Cod), but in a couple unusual ways. When I noticed that one recipe was red. And the other white. And i...

A list of step by step recipes I use when cooking for a small ( 2 or fewer) crowd. Seriously illustrated. Thursday, December 4, 2014. Bucatini is a thicker pasta with a hole, like a tube. Sauce gets in there and it has a nice solid texture. Anything goes here. No holding back. So let your mind run to excess! Add or subtract what you like or don't like from the dish below, but try the idea. You'll like it. AND enhance everything with a fine wine. Now to the dish. Pork and tomato sauce are a perfect co...

A list of step by step recipes I use when cooking for a small ( 2 or fewer) crowd. Seriously illustrated. Saturday, September 1, 2012. Baked Eggplant and Sausage. This is the time of year when eggplants are plentiful and delicious! One thing I like to do is make meals that can be easily frozen and then enjoyed in the winter. Not everything works for that purpose, but this dish does. Even so, the ingredients here make a smallish casserole and could serve two with just a few "lunch" leftovers. Have the neg...

The day after New Year's 2012: in my wine cellar I found the first bottle on which I had written the notation " drink in 2012. It is a 2000 Borolo. Wine deserves a serious meal. A list of step by step recipes I use when cooking for a small ( 2 or fewer) crowd. Seriously illustrated. Saturday, May 25, 2013. This is a very soft but flavorful dish. I prefer not to put all the vegetables inside. My stew. Having some on their own makes for a more interesting whole meal experience. So instead of adding potato chunks to be cooked to oblivion inside, I've chosen to create a Passato di Patate. Veal Stew screams for a non-cloying red to accompany it. Vietti's Barbera d'Asti. 2 oz Shallots...

After thinking about this for years, I have concluded that the problem is that we always make it with canned stuff. You can buy a yellow can of Pasta con Sarde. Ingredients packed in Sicily. Then after sprucing it up a little bit you get the traditional goopy, and to me anyway, uninteresting dish. Substitute fresh ingredients which we can.

Wintertime demands a warm, rich, homey meal. You don't have to make a big stew that feeds dozens to achieve this. (Although I have, in the past, when there were lots more tummies around to feed! The wine should also not. Be pretentious. I've chosen Stella di Campalto's Rosso di Montalcino. Option) Another possibility would be to ...

Cooking 4 2: January 2013

A list of step by step recipes I use when cooking for a small ( 2 or fewer) crowd. Seriously illustrated. Wednesday, January 2, 2013. New Year Rack of Lamb. Two things I usually consider necessary for a meal on New Year's Day: 1) It be reasonably elegant and 2) It be relatively easy to make. No one wants to spend hours in the kitchen on the day after New Year's Eve! Or it's slightly easier cousin,. Successful wines for this meal could be red ( Merlot. Or white ( Vouvray. Or a high quality Riesling).
