Welcome to the Pain Cave. It never always gets worse. Miles covered: 48.7 (Edinburg Gap) of 70.8 mi. 2013 results: http:/ www.vhtrc.org/results/ring13.htm. Those who finish join the Fellowship of the Ring and are granted the “privilege” of running the Reverse Ring. In February. The Ring also happens to be a Fat Ass run (no entry fees, no awards, no t-shirts); support comes from the generous sponsorship of the VHTRC. At 7 am, forty-six of us began. From the very start, I just plodded along, mildly hop...

Welcome to the Pain Cave. It never always gets worse. Last Long Run before Grindstone 100: The Ring. Miles covered: 56.9 (Woodstock) of 70.8 mi. 2014 results: http:/ www.vhtrc.org/results/2014/TheRing.htm. Last summer, I went into The Ring. With no qualms whatsoever about dropping at any point. It would, of course, be nice to finish, but joining the Fellowship was not my primary goal. I was more concerned with getting good time on feet for my last long run before Grindstone. Start to Milford Gap:. 133 mi...

Welcome to the Pain Cave. It never always gets worse. 2014 Holiday Lake 50k Race Report. So Holiday Lake is *supposed* to be an *easy* 50k, the very first race of the Lynchburg Ultra Series and Beast Series. It’s a two-loop course, with the second loop being run in the opposite direction of the first loop, for a total of 32 miles. There is an 8 hour cut off, requiring an overall 15 min/mi pace. You must complete the first loop in 3:45 and reach the AS #2 (mile 25) in 5:45. No PR for me this year! The pre...

Welcome to the Pain Cave. It never always gets worse. Running Playlist Song of the Day: Take Me to Church. Such a raw, beautiful song … because who among us can ever claim that our actions *never* come in conflict with our beliefs causing a crisis in faith? Take Me to Church. My lover’s got humor. She’s the giggle at a funeral. Knows everybody’s disapproval. I should’ve worshiped her soonerIf the heavens ever did speak. She’s the last true mouthpiece. Every Sunday’s getting more bleak. I was born sick,.

Welcome to the Pain Cave. It never always gets worse. What Ultrarunning Means to Me. 55th Annual Domino’s Lexington to Buena Vista 10k. I couldn’t decide! Which should I run? A twenty-mile training run on the Hellgate 100k course: AS #4, Floyd’s Field (part of Promise Land 50k) to AS #7, Bearwallow Gap. Hellgate is the final race in the Beast Series, only six weeks away. So, maybe trying to “race” a road 10k on still-recovering Masochist legs isn’t a good idea. Annnnnnndddd for that...I hemmed and hawed,...

Welcome to the Pain Cave. It never always gets worse. 2014 Promise Land 50k Race Report. Ran my third Promise Land 50k. In Bedford, VA in 7:05 (12:30 pace overall), PRing by 57 minutes from last year. I was seeded 53 of 92 females and beat no, demolished my seed, finishing 28th of 82 females, 155 out of 333 overall. 345 runners started, 333 finished. Two weeks ago, I was sure running those fairly flat miles served absolutely no training purpose for a mountain ultra. Apparently, I was wrong. grin. The sig...
