The Knitting Curmudgeon: April 2013

http://knittingcurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2013_04_01_archive.html

Shut up, I'm counting. Thursday, April 11, 2013. Yo, Designers.Write It Right! Best Quote I Heard All Day. 8220;When you write a book, you spend day after day scanning and identifying the trees. When you’re done, you have to step back and look at the forest.”. Way back when, editors always used blue pencils to mark manuscripts. Yes, I did that too. Back when I began editing in 1983, I'd sit at my desk with the pencil. Now I simply use Word's Track Changes. Magazines have X amount of space for directions,...

The Knitting Curmudgeon: September 2014

Shut up, I'm counting. Monday, September 22, 2014. Best Quote I Heard All Day. 8220;Really, all you need to become a good knitter are wool, needles, hands, and slightly below-average intelligence. Of course superior intelligence, such as yours and mine, is an advantage.”. The lace stitch pattern is relatively easy, Lazy Lacy. HA! It's pretty and memorizable. I often teach my knitting friends and their lace mistakes are big problems. Here are a couple, with slight solutions . Editing my own directions is ...

Shut up, I'm counting. Wednesday, November 26, 2014. Sock It to You.Next Book. Best Quote I Heard All Day. I hate writing, I love having written". Madame Author.Mar, My Nickname. Knitting and writing activities keep my brain functional. So I'm going to create a book with all my sock designs in it. Yes, "Sock It To You" is the title. Currently, I've been screwing around with a sock design for which I've hunted for the proper yarn. My titles are all comic. My darling nephew, Nicholas, asked Auntie Marilyn ...

The Knitting Curmudgeon: March 2013

http://knittingcurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2013_03_01_archive.html

Shut up, I'm counting. Monday, March 25, 2013. Knitfall, not Pitfall. Best Quote I Heard All Day. Summing up, it is clear the future holds great opportunities. It also holds pitfalls. The trick will be to avoid the pitfalls, seize the opportunities, and get back home by. Expert knitters screw up their knitting too, even though most of them don't want to admit it. I make occasional mistakes and I'm about to add Knitfalls to my design directions. The yarn for the socks? Those are Mardi Gras socks! So that'...

The Knitting Curmudgeon: August 2014

http://knittingcurmudgeon.blogspot.com/2014_08_01_archive.html

Shut up, I'm counting. Saturday, August 30, 2014. My Knitting History With Mommy. Best Quote I Heard All Day. 8220;As I get older, I just prefer to knit. ”. These days, as I get older, knitting is my lifestyle. Mommy taught me how to knit when I was 7 years old, due to my grabbing her knitting markers from her knitting bag. So she took me to Montclair's Myer's Five and Ten store, bought me a Red Heart ball that was variegated, tons of colors, and Boye's Needles #7. Fiberality Designs Yarn Pile. Got a ton...

QueerJoe's Knitting Blog: Healthy Opposition or Hater?

http://queerjoe.blogspot.com/2015/07/healthy-opposition-or-hater.html

A listing of all my many adventures and misadventures in this passion that has overtaken me since I was 25 years old. knitting. Monday, July 27, 2015. Healthy Opposition or Hater? It's been truly eye-opening as I expanded my friends on Facebook that there are many more haters than I would have thought, who were willing to accept my friend request. To be clear, opposition to the ideas of progressives, liberals, the President, etc. are healthy and I am open to listening to what they have to say. You think ...

Fuzzarelly: Late fee is waived.

http://fuzzarelly.blogspot.com/2015/07/late-fee-is-waived.html

Tuesday, July 21, 2015. Late fee is waived. I made another little purse. These bags are cute as can be, and of course, I am not satisfied completely with any of them. So I decided to do a different kind of purse with a larger format to allow some creativity in decoration. I have used this template before, but the embellishment is inspired by Klimt. Fuzzarelly: Safety First

http://fuzzarelly.blogspot.com/2015/08/safety-first.html

Thursday, August 06, 2015. I have been doing stuff. Only most of it is not blog worthy. I went to see a talk by Pam de Groot. At The Foundry Centre in St. Charles. Just this side of St. Louis on Sunday. She is a 'famous' felt maker and she is teaching a couple of intense workshops there this week. I like her work, but she is not a good public speaker, being unable or unwilling to project her voice in a small space. I learned a few things anyway. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). What is Fair Isle? Fair Isle (named after a tiny island off Scotland) is a technique of knitting motifs with multiple colors, usually from a chart. While there can be as little as 2 colors, or as much as six, the general rule of fair isle knitting is that there are only two colors per row. The style gained popularity when Edward VIII. Was seen in public with his (now famous) sweater vests. You can read more about the technique on Wikipedia. What is this project? Version 3 is now still using arrays, but m...

Shut up, I'm counting. Sunday, September 06, 2015. Summer Yarn Hot Fun. Best Quote I Heard All Day. 8220;To me, the raveled sleeve of care is never more painlessly knitted up than in an evening alone in a chair snug yet copious, with a good light and an easily held little volume sloppily printed and bound in inexpensive paper. I do not ask much of it - which is just as well, for that is all I get.". Yes, my beloved Dorothy Parker was a knitter. Read her biography here. Sock It To You Big Heat. I love wri...

Viernes, 22 de febrero de 2013. An ode to Black Yarn. A while ago, a cousin asked for a phone cozy, he's cool and this would be the first knitted thing he asks, so I said "sure, which colors do you want? Then he said the most awful words someone can say to a knitter IMO: " just one, black". The moment those words left my cousin's mouth I felt the urge to gulp down a hole bottle of vodka, to grow claws and maim him, and running all the way to Peru, all at the same time. Fucking. Blob. of DOOM. Mostly beca...

July 17, 2015 · 6:00 am. Even more baby booties! If there’s one thing I knit more than any other, it has to be baby booties (I think baby hats are a close second). A lot of friends and family–us included–have been having kids recently. It’s a very exciting time :). These pink booties were for my coworker’s beautiful newborn girl. The yarn is the rest of the skein I had used for my first niece. In 2012, which I’d been saving. It’s a caper sock yarn from String Theory. Here’s a photo from then. Certain err...
