Slogging across the Americas: February 2010
http://slog.sacrifiction.net/2010_02_01_archive.html
Slogging across the Americas. Sunday, 28 February 2010. Pope Pius XI glacier. After Puerto Eden, we took the only real detour of the trip, sailing to the Pope Pius XI glacier. The scenery as we sailed towards the glacier, was very dramatic, with other glacial tongues visible in the mountains around, seals or sea lions playing in the water, and of course icebergs floating away from the wall of ice we were approaching. The party afterwards turned out to be not entirely lame, we had some drinks and mingled,...

Slogging across the Americas: March 2010
http://slog.sacrifiction.net/2010_03_01_archive.html
Slogging across the Americas. Friday, 12 March 2010. It rains by night at the end of the world. Except for the 100km stretch between Ushuaia and little Tolhuin. For while the downpours revel in Ushuaia town, in the mountains the clouds release only bright white down. Beautiful. Sunday, 7 March 2010. The end of the continent. This was the Southernmost point. We reached on the South-American mainland. Fuerto Bulnes was the main destination of a little half-day tour we did from Punta Arenas. It must have be...

Slogging across the Americas: August 2009
http://slog.sacrifiction.net/2009_08_01_archive.html
Slogging across the Americas. Saturday, 29 August 2009. A fascinating feeling in fascinating Chiapas. Saturday, 22 August 2009. By now, we are no longer lost when we arrive in a new place. We have a system! While my girl watches our stuff I step outside, hoping my phone's GPS will get a fix on our location while I visit all the hostels and hotels near the bus terminal to check prices. So once again we have a new home, at least for the night. Time to go exploring! Friday, 14 August 2009. One thing I had h...

Slogging across the Americas: Punta Arenas
http://slog.sacrifiction.net/2010/03/punta-arenas.html
Slogging across the Americas. Friday, 5 March 2010. Punta Arenas was our Southernmost stay on the South-American mainland. It is a port on the Magellan Straight, and one of the main attractions is the Zona Franca, a duty-free zone which seemed to primarily be full of warehouses for shipping companies, but also catered to the general public, selling electronics, cars, furniture, clothes, perfume and even food. We slogged through Central and South-America, until we got tired or our savings ran out. Truly a sacrifiction.

Slogging across the Americas: Fuerto Bulnes
http://slog.sacrifiction.net/2010/03/fuerto-bulnes.html
Slogging across the Americas. Sunday, 7 March 2010. Fuerto Bulnes was the main destination of a little half-day tour we did from Punta Arenas. The fort is a restoration/replica of the outpost established by Chile to claim the Magellan Straight as theirs. It was a cute little museum full of buildings made of wood and turf, cannons and fields. Today, in weather a little less grey and drizzly than our experience, it would make a great place for a picnic, or, better yet, a game of hide-and-seek.

Slogging across the Americas: October 2009
http://slog.sacrifiction.net/2009_10_01_archive.html
Slogging across the Americas. Monday, 19 October 2009. Hmm But that's a day after tomorrow. Now it is 10 pm, it is dark outside and Bjarni is putting away his laptop as the pub is closing. Our glasses are empty, it is time to go home. We visited Otavalo to see the big market the town is famous for. In Otavalo we did the usual "Ewelina guards the bags while Bjarni checks out accomadation" thing, finding a nice room for $15 with a balcony and a view over the Poncho square and its daily market. Our faith in...

Slogging across the Americas: September 2009
http://slog.sacrifiction.net/2009_09_01_archive.html
Slogging across the Americas. Wednesday, 23 September 2009. In Ecuador, on the equator, on the equinox! Ewelina and I have been in Quito for a few days now, taking it easy, getting used to the altitude and trying to catch up on our digital chores; going through her photos from Cuba, writing and translating blog posts. and discovering that the internet here is too unreliable for us to easily update our photo album, or hang out on Facebook. This was followed by a fancy meal and an evening of more nerding.

Slogging across the Americas: November 2009
http://slog.sacrifiction.net/2009_11_01_archive.html
Slogging across the Americas. Sunday, 29 November 2009. Where the Rio Maranon flows past Nauta, just before merging with the Amazon, we had a sudden change of plans. We overheard that the group of American kids who were onboard with us were going ashore here, to get a bus to Iquitos. Instead of staying on the boat for another 8 hours or more, they hoped to reach Iquitos by land in less than two. Two hours later, we were in Iquitos! Thursday, 26 November 2009. Our guides, Esteban and Nilo, moved our stuff...
