Yarn Treats from Edinburgh →. Coast Guard Lifeboat 44300. September 24, 2013. My favorite exhibit at the Maritime Museum. In Astoria was this boat – Coast Guard Lifeboat CG-44300. It’s an actual boat, retired from service after 19 years of active duty and 15 years as a training boat. It had an incredible run on active duty, and now it’s spiffed up, as shiny and clean as if it were a replica, demonstrating an ocean rescue. It definitely deserves its place of honor on display at the front of the museum.

Newer posts →. September 11, 2013. The two buddies together once we had finally reached our next destination, the Astoria Column. Getting there was quite the adventure – and not a 100% fun one, either. September 10, 2013. Are you familiar with the movie. I wasn’t before we visited Astoria, but it was a favorite of John’s when he was young (rightly so, being a quintessential young boy’s adventure movie). It’s set in Astoria, and when John realized that, we. It was also a little awkward, because there were...

Just before dawn on the Columbia. Flying Ear →. September 17, 2013. Some minutes after the photos from yesterday; it was really interesting how quickly the sky and clouds changed color from gray, to blue, to bright pink, back to a purplish blue. I was not so happy to be awake early enough to catch the sunrise, but at least I got some beautiful pictures from it. This entry was tagged Astoria. Just before dawn on the Columbia. Sunday, April 12, 2015. This is the second shawl I have completed using Kat Strieby's lovely pattern. We have hard copies in the store but soon the pattern will launch on Ravelry. The shawl is a somewhat challenging but definitely doable with just a few hints about the increase pattern. I had sort of put crochet away for a while but this one rekindles my crochet desire and I am already looking for something new to do. In all I found the game to be really fun. Friday, July 3, 2015. A New Flag In Front. Since shortly after I opened the shop a sandwich board sat out front so that people driving by could find us and know when we were open. Because the store is located down from street level and our homeowner's rules have strict requirements for signage it is sometimes hard to find us. In this post I am going to include all of the information you need to make your own! We needed about 1.5 skeins of each. Size 10 circular 40". 16 stitches for 4". My goal was to get...

Wednesday, December 18, 2013. Steeking on an Airplane. After some avoidance I finally steeked. On the airplane from Portland to London this poor sweater mostly sat in my bag. I played around with some Alpaca Laceweight in preparation for a double sided hat pattern rolling around in my head. I knit up a fingerless mitt out of some Hollywood yarn. We arrived in London, hopped on a series of two trains up to Wales and discovered our telephones didn't work at all! While Grace and I got a much deserved coffee...

What is Puddle Wonderful? Thursday, August 21, 2014. Back to School Sampler. As you have probably guessed, I am crazy busy getting ready for back to school. This image was created primarily out of images I took on the way home to Barcelona from a day out in Cadaques. A combination of light-noise shots derived from long exposures of the road and traffic, and dark silhouettes of road-side trees. There’s also a shot of some trees from Beijing in the mix. I printed this image and hung it in our school community art exhibition. It’s sale has helped to generate raise funds to support our student service groups. How does it strike you? May 12, 2015.
