'Round the Blocks

Sunday, July 31, 2011. Here is a quilt I'm working on that includes today's basic unit, the Drunkard's Path. I was aiming for a Card Tricks look, but it ended up looking like PacMan! When placed next to each other, the two pieces of the Drunkard's Path block don't look like they'll fit together. Never fear: that's the nature of arcs and curves, and once they are sewn together, they will fit perfectly! The key to success is pinning the pieces properly. The straight edges at the ends of the curves of t...

'Round the Blocks: October 2010

http://roundtheblocks.blogspot.com/2010_10_01_archive.html

Sunday, October 31, 2010. As with many quilt blocks (but by no means all), Snowball is descriptive of how the block looks, and it's simple to do- when you know the secret of corner triangles. It is often used as an alternate block, but it can also be used "on its own.". For a 12" block you will need:. 1) 12-1/2" square light. 4) 4-1/2" squares dark. Using a white, silver or yellow pencil draw a diagonal line from corner to corner on the wrong side of each dark square. Wednesday, October 27, 2010. The HST...

'Round the Blocks: November 2010

http://roundtheblocks.blogspot.com/2010_11_01_archive.html

Monday, November 29, 2010. BOW #26: Slanted Diamonds. I have to confess that I have never made this block "for real," but I'm having fun playing with it virtually- and it means I'll probably have to make a quilt with it! It's easy to make, using the ever popular HST (Half Square Triangle). You'll need 3 HSTs each of 3 color combinations; for a 12" finished square you'll need:. 3) 4-1/2" HSTs, Color 1/Color 2 combination. 3) 4-1/2" HSTs, Color 2/Color 3 combination. Arrange them as shown:. We made the Spo...

http://roundtheblocks.blogspot.com/2011/05/bow-49-storm-at-sea.html

Tuesday, May 31, 2011. BOW #49 Storm at Sea. Storm at Sea has many pieces, but it creates a very nice effect when combined with other Storm blocks. For a 12" finished block you'll need:. 4) 1:1 isosceles triangles, Dark. 1) 5-1/2" Dark square, cut twice diagonally (Quarter Square Triangles). 1) 3-1/4" Dark square, cut twice diagonally (Quarter Square Triangles). 4) 2-3/4" x 5-3/8" Light rectangles, cut diagonally once. 1) 4-1/2" Medium square. 1) 2-1/2" Medium square. And put it all together:. BOW #47 Sn...

'Round the Blocks: BOW #48 House

http://roundtheblocks.blogspot.com/2011/05/bow-48-house.html

Monday, May 23, 2011. There are many house (and Schoolhouse) blocks; this one has curtains at the windows! There are quite a few pieces, so we'll show how to put pieces together into units, that can then be sewn together into the block (which will finish at 12".). For this block you will need the following pieces:. 1) Quarter Square Triangle (made from 7-1/4" square, cut twice diagonally (brown, in the sample). 5) rectangles, 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" (red). 4) rectangles 2-1/2" x 7-1/2" (red). I think this would ...

Some of the Spinster's Favorite Things. Rapid Fire LeMoyne Star and Rapid Fire Hunter's Star rulers. These rulers make it so easy to make blocks that are difficult to piece accurately the traditional way. I have always loved the LeMoyne Star, especially, but doing all those points and that 8-point center was daunting and I was seldom happy with the results. With this ruler, I couldn't stop making the stars! BlockFab, QuiltFab, QuiltRef (iDevice apps). QuiltRef helps you with hand quilting information.

Short Guide to the Bible. Round the Bible Blog. 124; Comments RSS. Bishop David's Blog. Round the Bible Revisited. Posted on September 3, 2011. Around 1000 people accepted my challenge to read Round the Bible in 40 days cover-to-cover during Lent this year. We all travelled at different speeds and some are still en route, and we all got different things out of it. It was nearly always an encouragement, but the Old Testament often posed questions to us that we hadn’t wrestled with for a while. More shots ...

Around the Block | Our trip around Australia

Our trip around Australia. How do I post a comment on your blog? The Home Straight :). We stopped at Ceduna after our long trek across the Nullarbor and passed the quarantine checkpoint which was much less thorough than what we experienced when entering Western Australia. The weather was awful and we were exhausted. We worked out later that it was the time difference when crossing into SA. We were very happy to see this sign, graffiti and all…….
