"Do I dare?" and "Do I dare?"

And "Do I dare? A Peace Corps adventure. My Photos of Africa. Mixin it up in Niger. Saturday, July 30, 2011. Apples in the summer are golden sweet. She barks at the muscular young men demanding she hurry up, adjusting piles of faded fabric draped around skeletal shoulders. "Kala suuru," she states again, easing with a sigh into a minute crevice between people on the jagged bench seat. We roar off, dust billowing in our wake. Now, it is increasingly apparent that I am becoming readjusted to the States....

"Do I dare?" and "Do I dare?": Vol. 4: a ticket home

http://www.whatjuliacando.blogspot.com/2011/05/vol-4-ticket-home.html

And "Do I dare? A Peace Corps adventure. My Photos of Africa. Mixin it up in Niger. Monday, May 23, 2011. Vol 4: a ticket home. So I am offering only the abridged version of the story here, partly because my rewrites always turn out sloppy and also because I've been recently blessed with the opportunity to share much of this story with family and friends in person. Because in case you didn't hear, I am finally back in the States. For heaven's sake, how many times can that happen in a year? The melancholy...

And "Do I dare? A Peace Corps adventure. My Photos of Africa. Mixin it up in Niger. Saturday, October 30, 2010. Folks, we live in a miniscule world. Here's how I know:. Then, finally, the tiny, precious yellow light flickered on, signalling that I'd found reception. Sure enough, under the fuzz I could hear English! As I gingerly set my radio down on some rocks, concentrating on not loosing the "sweet spot," it dawned on me what I was hearing:. Famous as the home of Mohammed Ali.". Even so, the United Sta...

And "Do I dare? A Peace Corps adventure. My Photos of Africa. Mixin it up in Niger. Wednesday, August 4, 2010. Excerpts from Julia's Second Letter Home July 2010. This afternoon as I walked home for lunch, I somehow got mixed in with a herd of goats in the middle of the street. I had a good laugh with the man tending them. The Peace Corps has been in Niger for the longest uninterrupted period of any program in the world (since 1962), and we have an extraordinary reputation here. For me, this means th...

"Do I dare?" and "Do I dare?": June 2011

And "Do I dare? A Peace Corps adventure. My Photos of Africa. Mixin it up in Niger. Wednesday, June 15, 2011. Well how I curse that western skyline. I left Louisville in the burning heat. The first week of July in Southern Indiana traditionally welcomes a sticky, heavy summer air. Your feet beg to be released from shoes and a halo of hair sticks determinately to the rim of your forehead. So I climbed on a plane. A headache in this sort of weather taught me a new lesson in.patience. When we landed in Moro...

What Julia Ate

What we ate, what we are eating and what we will eat one day. Monday, March 17, 2014. What Julia Ate Has Moved! I have started a new blog called The Preserved Life. I really hope you will come and visit me over there! Sign up to get posts via email or put me in your reader. I will also try and link every post on Facebook. Which is still under the name What Julia Ate, as it's a little difficult to change names on FB) or Twitter (which I've changed to @preservedlife). And Instagram (which is a mix of both).

what julia did

Wednesday, 23 April 2008. Julia read 'Journey into a tiny world'. No end to her fall. The butcher's axe brushed past her and hit the ground close to where she was standing. Oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooh", squealed Poietin, as she ducked to avoid the sharp blade. A second chop came whistling past her, followed by a third, and a fourth, as the monster got closer. There was nowhere she could run to. There was no escaping the butcher's axe. Poietin was about to become minced protein. That must be heavy!

What Julie Ate | It's a delicious life, but somebody has to live it.

It's a delicious life, but somebody has to live it. Well, dear readers, you may have noticed this blog has not seen any eating or cooking action in quite some time. I’m going to wager it’s been more or less eight months. That’s about when all my energy for cooking got sucked away, transformed into energy for making another human. My daughter will be born in a few weeks, and from what I hear, I will not be making elaborate seven-part Thanksgiving desserts. It’s My First Blogiversary! Happy birthday, blog!

Yummy meals and helpful tips! Asymp; Leave a comment. Everyone loves a good old spaghetti recipe with creamy tomato sauce, right? Now throw in some garlic butter shrimp that’s a match made in heaven! I came up with this recipe as I made it, nothing was pre-planned of course, as most of my experiments turn out, it was delicious! Thaw out your shrimp & put your spaghetti to boil. Remove the shrimp from the pan add in about 1/4 C of diced onion red bell pepper and sauté. (Meanwhile, dice the shrimp). I felt...
