Blogging Mississippi

Follow us into the devastation wreaked by Katrina. Sunday, January 21, 2007. It’s been a week since I returned and I’ve been in a reflective mood. This is who you are. Is this who you want to be? Never before in my life have I been able to answer ‘Yes’ as fiercely as I was when I was in Biloxi. Saturday, January 13, 2007. Our flight was canceled. This was about 3pm. Our options were a flight at 4:10 (for seven of us) or one much later on Sunday. The 4:10 option gave us about negative 5 minute...Thanks Bi...

Follow us into the devastation wreaked by Katrina. Friday, January 12, 2007. Last night we experienced Southern Hospitality and learned the meaning of the term “comfort food” in a way that only red beans and rice, chicked and dumplings, Creole, and Gumbo can demonstrate, as Noelle’s cousin in nearby Gulfport hosted us for dinner. It was an amazing meal with the nicest people you can imagine. I couldn’t resist filling my plate. And I polished it all off. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom).

Follow us into the devastation wreaked by Katrina. Saturday, January 13, 2007. Well, here we are at a bar at the Gulfport/Biloxi Airport about 18 hours ahead of our scheduled departure. During lunch today we noticed that all sorts of weather problems were wreaking havoc at Dallas/Ft. Worth and thought, "Hm.maybe we should look into that.". We made it. And it turns out our plane is delayed so now we're waiting. This has been an absolutely amazing experience and this is a strangely appropriate way to end it.

Follow us into the devastation wreaked by Katrina. Saturday, January 06, 2007. I'm the worst packer on the planet. Every article of clothing in my apartment seems indispensible, even for a week-long excursion. Here is a picture of my first pass:. I did manage to condense this into one bag that can be described using words like "absurdly heavy" and "extremely awkward.". Of course, our accomodations are somewhat meager. I'm sure they'll get along fine. Subscribe to: Post Comments (Atom). Hands On Gulf Coast.

Writing about my work trip to Biloxi, MS. 12:58 pm February 12th, 2007. I have full intent of playing around with my pictures more and creating my own slide show, but thought I'd share Patrick's slideshow. Fairly accurate representation of my experience as well - only a few variations. 04:14 pm January 15th, 2007. Soon I will have more pictures to post, but I thought I'd share one from my first day at Turkey Creek. Erin took these on her camera phone. That's Leah, me, and our pile of debris in bags.

More from Patrick - Noelle in Biloxi. Writing about my work trip to Biloxi, MS. 04:08 pm February 13th, 2007. In the spirit of hyperlinking, here is a blog post Patrick wrote. I really appreciate his words and perspective. One of the most important lessons I learned in going to Biloxi is that that's all it takes. You make the decision and you do it. You go. Nike's been telling us for almost two decades to "Just Do It" (Yes, I looked it up. it was introduced in 1988). Hands On Gulf Coast.

Tikkun Olam - Noelle in Biloxi. Writing about my work trip to Biloxi, MS. 11:24 am March 18th, 2007. Every night at dinner at HOGC, new arrivals would introduce themselves, and those about to part would speak a little to their experience and say their goodbyes. For our Seattle group, this is when Jaxon gave his famous speech and lead us in a sing-along of Lean on Me. So when I come to Biloxi, I remember Tikkun Olam. Rebuilding the Gulf Coast. I spent 3 weeks in 2007 and 2008 volunteering in the Gulf Coast. This blog originally documented 2 of those trips to New Orleans. There are a lot of really amazing posts that the team has been adding to the Seattle Works blog. I just read Susanna's and it moved me. As did Bryan's the other night. Wednesday, January 30, 2008. Dr. Seuss, Dr. Seuss Poetry Blog

Dr Seuss Birthday 2011. Dr Seuss has a birthday this week. Theodor Seuss Geisel, the wildly creative creator of Horton, Sam, the Grinch and the Cat in the Hat, would have been 107 on Wednesday. To celebrate. head on over to the Seussville website, or pick up our favorite book. Mine were "And To Think That I Saw It On Mulberry Street" or "McElligott's Pool," which transported the readers to fanciful, immensely entertaining worlds. They were great reading when my children were little. Liked Christmas a lot.

Blogging Miz Daisy

Wednesday, May 20, 2015. The Girls turn ONE! Last week the girls turned one! Anyway so I put streamers on their door like I do for Isaac and hung the birthday banners. They enjoyed the balloons and streamers the next morning. We debating on going to church but work up late so decided to skip and just hang out as a family. We did presents in the morning downstairs, they each got a baby doll and a glow worm. They weren't fond of their birthday hats, haha. Emma giving Mary a hug:. I haven't taken their couc...

Blogging Miz Daisy

Friday, December 30, 2016. Christmas Eve night we got dressed up and headed to church. I tried to get some photos of the kids before we left, but Emma had just been woken up from nap and was not the happiest of campers. Church was fun, they had coloring sheets for the kids, Mary would shout out her name everytime "Mary" was spoken. Emma was really into the music. So we attempted photos again after church when everyone was in a much better mood. I decided to do the interval shooting like last year. And ha...

My life, and other stories. There Is a Baby in There, and I am SOOOO not Mother Earth. April 24, 2013. Well, the first doctor appointment was today. Fun times with internal ultrasounds and a bit of talking with the doctor. It is not fun. Oh Jesus. I am growing a life within me? April 6, 2013. So I ...
